Lady Lions Soccer Defeat Western Hills

The Lady Lions found the back of the net twice on Thursday, Aug. 31, to down Western Hills 2-0 in Lancaster. Junior Nevaeh Ford-Willkom scored in the first half while sophomore Eva Elleman added a goal in the second half. Both scores were assisted by freshman Ava Warren. Garrard goalkeeper Erica Heibenthal had a much-deserved evening of relaxation as the Lady Wolverines failed to put a shot on goal thanks to the excellent Lady Lion defense. Garrard improves to 6-2-2 on the season, including a 4-1-1 mark at home.

Action picked up where lighting left it off on Friday night -- with the Lions down 8-0 to the Yellowjackets at halftime. A Cameron Peak touchdown and a pick-6 by Hayden Elleman, Garrard jumped out to a 13-8 advantage early in the third quarter. Middlesboro found the end zone once more in the fourth frame to secure the 14-13 victory.

Golden Lions Break 8-Year Drought by Defeating Lincoln in District 45 Action

After being down 2-0 at the half, the Golden Lions clawed their way back to force overtime. Less than two minutes into the five-minute extra period, senior Russ Carrier cleaned up a ricocheted shot and found the back of the net for the win. The victory is the first for Garrard County in district play since the 2015 team defeated Lincoln.
