The Garrard County Sheriff's Office is poised to relocate to a new facility, with the move anticipated to be finalized by this Sunday, September 1. This development marks a significant milestone in the department's efforts to enhance its services and operational efficiency, providing improved accessibility to the residents of Garrard County.
The relocation to the new facility at 319 Stanford Street, previously occupied by Emergency Medical Services (EMS), represents a strategic move for the Garrett County Sheriff's Office. The new location promises to offer improved services and accessibility, ensuring the office can better meet the needs of the community.
Sheriff Willie Skeens recently provided an update on the relocation during a fiscal court meeting, emphasizing that the interior work on the new building is nearly complete. Only a few tasks remain, including the installation of a mini-split HVAC system and the finalization of a drive-thru window. The drive-thru window, expected to be operational by October 1, is seen as a valuable addition, particularly with the upcoming tax season. This feature will allow residents to complete transactions without needing to enter the building, offering greater convenience and efficiency.
The Sheriff’s Office has been working closely with various local departments to ensure a smooth transition. Notably, the road department has assisted with the preliminary work for the parking lot and other exterior needs. This collaboration has been essential in addressing the logistical challenges of the move and preparing the new facility for full functionality.
In addition to the interior work, Sheriff Skeens highlighted plans to collaborate with the county's road department to address blacktop and coal patch issues around the new facility. These measures are intended to save costs and ensure the surrounding infrastructure meets the needs of the Sheriff's Office. The department is also considering the implementation of a signal system at the exit of the new facility to enhance safety for emergency vehicles, a concern due to the visibility challenges posed by a nearby retaining wall.
Once the move is complete, the Sheriff's Office plans to host an open house event, inviting the public to tour the new premises and see the improvements firsthand. This event will provide an opportunity for residents to familiarize themselves with the new facility and the enhanced services it will offer.
Overall, the relocation of the Garrard County Sheriff's Office is expected to bring significant benefits to the community, streamlining operations and making the department more accessible. The new facility is set to become a central hub for law enforcement in the county, supporting the Sheriff's Office in its mission to serve and protect the residents of Garrard County with greater efficiency and effectiveness.
