Local Author Beth Dotson Brown Debuts Novel "Rooted in Sunrise"

Lancaster-based author Beth Dotson Brown is set to release her debut novel, Rooted in Sunrise, on September 17, 2024. The novel, published by Koehler Books, marks a significant milestone in Brown's long-standing writing career. With a background in journalism and a history of freelance writing, Brown has now ventured into the world of fiction with a story that explores the complexities of life’s crossroads.

Rooted in Sunrise follows the journey of Ava Winston, a woman whose life is upended by a natural disaster, forcing her to confront her past and make decisions about her future. The novel delves into themes of survival, self-discovery, and the pursuit of new beginnings, offering a narrative that resonates with anyone facing a turning point in their life.

Brown, who has previously authored a nonfiction book and numerous articles, expressed her excitement about the novel's release.

“Publishing a novel is something I’ve been working toward for years. Spending time with these characters has been a joyful adventure, and I hope it will be the same for readers,” she said.

The novel’s storyline is deeply personal for Brown, who herself faced a life-altering challenge in 2005 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This experience has influenced her writing, particularly in how her protagonist, Ava, navigates her own crisis and emerges with a renewed sense of purpose.

Rooted in Sunrise has already garnered praise from fellow authors.

Angela Correll, author of Restored in Tuscany, described it as “a beautifully written debut novel… This work of fiction has many truths that will resonate with anyone facing a crossroads in life, either chosen or forced.” Novelist Andriana Trigiani also commended the book, calling it “a loving coming-of-age story for women in mid-life. Brava!”

To celebrate the novel’s release, a book launch party will be held on September 17 at the First Southern National Bank Community Room in Lancaster, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., with an author reading and talk scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

The event is open to the public, offering an opportunity for attendees to meet the author and delve into the world of Rooted in Sunrise.

Beth Dotson Brown’s debut novel is available for preorder and will be widely available online and through bookstores starting September 17.
