(BOWLING GREEN, KY - Sept. 3, 2020) – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today released his “2020 Virtual Academy Day” video to help Second District students learn more about the five U.S. Service Academies and the process to apply for a congressional nomination.

“One of the greatest honors I have as the representative for the Second District is to nominate students to the U.S. Service Academies,” said Guthrie. “While we are unable to host our annual Academy Day in person this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, I encourage Second District students who may be interested in a service academy to watch our Virtual Academy Day video to learn more about the academies and about how to apply. As always, our office stands ready to help students through this process.”

The United States has five Service Academies: The U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. To be accepted into one of the academies, students must receive a congressional nomination from their local representative or senator.

Congressman Guthrie explains the congressional nomination process in his Virtual Academy Day video. A playlist of videos from each service academy can be found here. All application materials are available on Congressman Guthrie’s website here.

Students must apply to be considered for a nomination from Congressman Guthrie by November 12, 2020. Please note that in addition to applying for a nomination, students must also apply to the academy or academies of their choice. Students should contact Karen Cline, Service Academy Coordinator in Congressman Guthrie’s Bowling Green District Office at 270-842-9896 with any questions.
