General Fund and Road Fund Receipts for October 2023

The Office of State Budget Director reported today that October’s General Fund receipts rose 1.9 percent, or $23.2 million, over last year’s total.  Revenues for the month were $1,236.8 million compared to $1,213.6 million collected in October 2022.  October 2023 is the 14th consecutive month of General Fund receipts in excess of $1 billion. Receipts have increased 5.6 percent for the first four months of the fiscal year and can decline 2.9 percent over the final eight months of FY24 to achieve the official revenue estimate of $15,117.7 million.

EKU Commemorates New Veterans Memorial During Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

RICHMOND, Ky. (Nov. 4, 2023) — Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) commemorated the newly relocated Veterans Memorial during a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Nov. 4. With key elements from the previous memorial located in Powell Plaza, the new Veterans Memorial in Carloftis Garden displays the American flag and the service flags to represent the branches of the military; a granite slate with the inscribed names of those who have given their lives while serving; benches dedicated by veterans and their families; and the Fallen Soldier Cross sculpture.

On the evening of October 27, the Garrard County Golden Lions faced off against the Harrison County Thorobreds in an intense gridiron match on their home ground. The game kicked off with both teams exhibiting a mix of strategic offense and solid defense, yet by the end of the first quarter, Garrard trailed by a score of 7 to Harrison’s 14. As the match progressed, the Golden Lions managed to bag additional points but were still behind at halftime with a score of 17 to 30. Despite their unwavering efforts to bridge the score gap post-halftime, the third quarter ended at 24 to 38 in favor of Harrison. In the final quarter, Garrard County displayed relentless spirit with Hayden Elleman scoring a rushing touchdown and Zak Dailey adding the extra point, but they ultimately faced defeat with the scoreboard marking 31 to 46 by the end of the game. Despite the loss, the notable performances of Cam Peak, Malachi Simmons, Hayden Elleman, and Zak Dailey highlighted Garrard County's tenacity, providing a silver lining to the tough competition.
