(Original Post) - Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement agencies are searching for an armed and dangerous man in Garrard County after authorities said he fired a weapon at law enforcement officers and fled into a wooded area Friday morning.

The incident was unfolding in the Polly’s Bend Road area, where the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team had responded to a residence to execute a warrant on a male individual, according to information provided by Trooper Justin Kearney.

After what Kearney described as lengthy negotiations, the man refused to cooperate with law enforcement. Authorities said the situation escalated when the individual fired a weapon at officers before fleeing from the residence and entering a wooded area.

The man remained at large as authorities continued their search. Kentucky State Police considers him armed and dangerous.

Authorities said the man was last seen wearing dark-colored shorts. He was not wearing a shirt or shoes.

Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement agencies were actively searching the surrounding area, and residents were being urged to take precautions while the operation remained underway.

People living in the area have been asked to remain inside their homes and lock their doors. Anyone who sees a suspicious man matching the description should not approach or attempt to confront him.

Residents should instead call 911 or contact the Kentucky State Police Richmond Post at 859-623-2404 and provide authorities with any information that could assist in locating the individual.

Members of the public are also being asked to avoid the Polly’s Bend Road area to give law enforcement personnel room to safely conduct the search.

Polly’s Bend is in northern Garrard County near the Kentucky River. State transportation records show KY 1845 extends to its junction with Polly’s Bend Road, while the nearby Dupree Nature Preserve is situated along the Kentucky River in the Polly’s Bend area.

Authorities had not immediately released the identity of the man being sought or additional details about the warrant. No information was immediately available regarding injuries.

The search remains active, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
