Garrard County Activates Warming Shelters Amid Cold Weather Forecast
Garrard County Emergency Management has announced the activation of warming shelters in response to forecasted cold weather conditions. The shelters will be open from Saturday, January 24 at 8:00 AM through Monday, January 26 at 8:00 AM, with the possibility of an extension depending on changes in the weather forecast.
In addition to providing warming shelters, Garrard County Emergency Management will be offering a range of support services to residents affected by the severe weather. These services include transportation to and from work for essential emergency services personnel—such as nurses, EMS workers, and nursing home staff—as well as assistance with medication pick-up (requiring prior payment). Welfare checks will be conducted for individuals potentially impacted by the cold, and transportation to the warming shelters will also be available.
Residents in need of any of these services are encouraged to contact Bluegrass 911 Communications at 859-792-3023.
The designated warming shelter locations are:
• Lancaster Police Department
• Garrard County Homeless Center
• Cartersville-Paint Lick Fire Department
• Forks of Dix River Baptist Church
Emergency Management personnel will remain on duty throughout the weekend, monitoring weather conditions and coordinating resources from the Emergency Operations Center. Their efforts are focused on supporting both emergency service providers and the general public during the period of inclement weather.
Officials urge residents to take precautions and utilize available services to ensure their safety and well-being.
