Garrard County Dominates Lewis County 45-7 in Road Victory
Garrard County’s Golden Lions delivered a commanding performance Friday night, defeating Lewis County 45-7 on the road to improve to 2-1 on the season. Behind a relentless ground game, stout defense, and special teams excellence, the Golden Lions showed no signs of rust after an unexpected bye week, striking early and maintaining control throughout the contest.
The tone was set on the opening drive, as senior quarterback Justin Parsons led Garrard County down the field with poise. The opening touchdown came on a 12-yard run from RJ Blair, who powered his way into the end zone after a balanced drive that saw key contributions from Ethan Viands and Cooper Whitt. Blair added the extra point, making it 7-0 with 7:56 remaining in the first quarter.
Just minutes later, a special teams highlight put Garrard further ahead. A high snap on Lewis County’s punt attempt was blocked and ultimately recovered in the end zone for a safety, giving the Golden Lions a 9-0 lead. Blair would strike again on the ensuing kickoff return, setting up excellent field position which was quickly converted into a touchdown run. Another Blair field goal extended the margin to 16-0.
Lewis County managed a brief rally late in the first quarter, narrowing the deficit to 16-7 with a 24-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Aaden Bloomfield to wide receiver Branton Stidam. But Garrard County responded immediately and decisively.
In the first play of the second quarter, Parsons connected with wideout Gavin Baker for an 85-yard touchdown reception. Blair’s kick extended the lead to 24-7. The Golden Lions defense followed with a key interception by Blair himself, which set up another rushing score by Whitt, who finished the night with multiple touchdowns.
Special teams again played a pivotal role, as a second safety extended the lead to 31-7. The momentum never shifted again. Freshman Keelan Hahn punched in a touchdown from nine yards out, and just before halftime, the defense capped its dominant effort with a 43-yard scoop-and-score by lineman Ethan Viands.
With a 45-7 halftime lead, the second half was played with a running clock. Coach Spencer Crutchfield used the opportunity to rotate in younger players, giving several underclassmen valuable varsity snaps. Freshmen Ryan Noe, Jacob Pendergrist, and Keegan Sparks were among those contributing in the latter stages.
With the win, Garrard County improves to 2-1 on the season and now turns its attention to a home matchup next week against Bethlehem. The Golden Lions will look to maintain their momentum as they return to Dyehouse Stadium.
