West Jessamine Overpowers Garrard in 32-17 Victory
In a matchup held in Nicholasville this past Friday, West Jessamine emerged victorious against Garrard with a comprehensive 32-17 win. The victory comes a week after Garrard secured its first win of the season against East Jessamine but failed to repeat its success against another Jessamine County opponent.
West Jessamine, a class 5A team, displayed an effective balanced attack, accumulating 154 yards on the ground and another 131 through the air. Notably, the Colts also capitalized on turnovers, intercepting two passes and recovering a fumble to keep the momentum in their favor.
Garrard, which now stands at 1-5 for the season, struggled to establish a running game. The team managed a mere 76 total yards, with junior Malachi Simmons contributing 60 of those yards on 17 carries.
Despite the setbacks, Garrard's sophomore quarterback Justin Parsons had a commendable performance, completing 12 out of 15 pass attempts and racking up 210 passing yards. He connected with Simmons for a 43-yard touchdown and found senior Hayden Elleman, who had 104 receiving yards, for another score.
Junior place kicker Zak Dailey also had a noteworthy game for Garrard. Dailey successfully converted both point-after attempts and nailed his third field goal of the season.
While the loss will be a setback for Garrard as they navigate the rest of the season, West Jessamine's win solidifies their standing at 4-2 and adds another victory to their increasingly impressive résumé.
