UK Extension Office to Host Cast Iron Cooking Event
The University of Kentucky's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment is organizing a special event titled 'Cast Iron Cooking'. Scheduled for October 25th at 4 pm, the watch party will take place at the Garrard County Extension Office.
Led by Garrard County FCS Agent, Kayla Lunsford, the event aims to educate participants about the nuances of outdoor and indoor cooking using cast iron. This session provides an opportunity for attendees to grasp the basics of cooking outdoors with cast iron in a manner that ensures safety and promotes health.
Participants will gain insights into assembling a basic outdoor cooking kit and improvising with low-cost cooking methods. The emphasis on outdoor cooking not only serves recreational purposes but also becomes crucial during emergencies. With recent floods in eastern Kentucky and tornadoes in west Kentucky, the importance of being prepared for any situation cannot be overstated.
In addition to the educational aspect, attendees will be treated to some delectable samples, including Country Cornbread and Autumn Sweet Potato Chili, showcasing the versatility of cast iron cooking.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to call the Garrard County Extension Office to register. The event is open to all, promoting a community atmosphere where everyone is welcome to learn and enjoy.
For more information or to register for the event, prospective attendees should contact the Garrard County Extension Office directly.
