Garrard County Blood Drive Announced Amid Blood Supply Concerns

In a collective effort to bolster the local blood supply, the Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is organizing a community blood drive in Garrard County. The drive is set to take place on Tuesday, November 7, from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lancaster Baptist Church's Family Life Center, located at 201 Richmond St., Lancaster.

The drive comes in light of recent data showing critically low blood supplies, especially for specific blood types including O- and AB-. There is also a low supply for A- blood, though that supply has not reached a critical level as of yet.

The importance of such initiatives has been underscored by the success of recent drives. In September, a commendable 31 donors registered, leading to 25 successful donations. These contributions have been crucial in saving the lives of 75 Kentucky patients.

Despite the success in September, there was a slight dip in donations compared to July, which saw 37 donations. The organizers are optimistic that the upcoming November drive will attract a larger turnout.

To motivate and appreciate donors, KBC has announced that all participants will receive a complimentary KBC T-shirt, available while supplies last. While appointments are preferred, walk-ins are also welcome. Donors are requested to bring a valid photo ID. Those wishing to schedule an appointment can do so by scanning the provided QR code or visiting the Kentucky Blood Center website.

Ensuring a consistent blood supply is crucial for healthcare facilities, especially in emergencies. Community members are encouraged to participate and contribute to this lifesaving cause. The KBC reiterates the importance of local support, with their motto emphasizing, "Live local - Give local."
