Lady Lion Volleyball Team Dominates in District 45 Tournament Opener Against KSD Colonels

Garrard Middle School was the setting for an opening-round tour de force as the three-seeded Lady Lion volleyball team swept the six-seeded Colonels from the Kentucky School for the Deaf on Monday, October 16. The victory was characterized by a remarkably strong service game, propelling the Lady Lions into the next round of the District 45 Tournament.

Exceptional Service Leads to Convincing Win

Senior Chloe Middleton opened the match at the service line for the Lady Lions and achieved what can only be described as an extraordinary feat. She served an uninterrupted sequence of 25 points, including 22 aces, to close out the first set with a staggering 25-0 victory against KSD.

The overwhelming momentum continued into the second set as seniors Skylar Mullins, Lexie Lewis, and Haleigh Frye stepped up to the plate. Each contributed six aces, allowing the Lady Lions to dominate the frame 25-2.

In the third and final set, junior McKenzie Martin and senior Presley Applegate joined the ace spree. Martin served 14 aces while Applegate added eight more, leading Garrard to a decisive 25-1 win to conclude the match.

Upcoming Match Against Lincoln County

The Lady Lions are set to square off against Lincoln County on Tuesday at approximately 7 p.m. at Garrard Middle School. The regular-season series between the two teams stands at 2-1 in favor of Garrard, but it has been a closely fought battle, with Lincoln winning six sets to Garrard’s five.

The stakes for the upcoming match are high. Not only does the winner earn the opportunity to vie for the district championship on Thursday at Garrard Middle School, but they will also secure a spot in the 12th Region Tournament scheduled for next week.

In a season that has already had its share of highlights, the Lady Lions' opening-round victory adds yet another feather in their cap as they continue their journey in the District 45 Tournament.
