Public Input Sought For Garrard Schools Facility Plan
(Lancaster, Ky - March 11, 2021) — The Garrard County Board of Education is seeking public and community input in identifying facility needs across the school district and plans to hold a series of meetings in late March throughout the school district in order to gather feedback.
The purpose of the meetings will be discussing possible construction and renovation needs that exist within the Garrard County School District. The board hopes to get some valued and meaningful feedback that will guide the school board members in making decisions on the district’s facilities.
The dates and location of the meetings are:
• Monday, March 22 at Lancaster Elementary
• Tuesday, March 23 at Paint Lick Elementary
• Thursday, March 25 at Camp Dick Elementary
All meetings will begin at 6:00 pm.
The last facility plan was formed in 2015 covering many energy efficiency improvements in buildings across the school district and touched on many other needs for the district, some of which still exist.
The district facilities plan is the mechanism for accessing funds that are restricted for school capital construction and major renovation. These first meetings to seek public input will be only the first steps in a long process. Once a district facilities plan has been developed and approved by a Local Planning Committee, reviewed by Kentucky Department of Education staff, tentatively approved by the local board, reviewed in a public hearing and finally approved by the local board following the hearing officer’s report it is submitted to the Kentucky Board of Education for review. It then must be approved by the Kentucky Board of Education before the district can put the plan into action.
