Deadline Approaching for Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts Applications
The Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) is sending a reminder to students in Garrard County about the upcoming deadline for its 2024 class applications. High school sophomores and juniors interested in this esteemed, tuition-free program have until January 14, 2024, to submit their applications.
The GSA, a prominent institution in artistic nurturing within Kentucky, has fostered the talents of over 8,000 artists from every county in the state. The closing date for applications is set for January 14 at 11:59 p.m. ET/10:59 p.m. CT. This unique program offers a three-week immersive residential experience across various artistic disciplines, hosted on a college campus, providing an unparalleled platform for creative exploration and growth.
Open to any current Kentucky high school sophomore or junior, the GSA seeks diverse applicants and focuses on creative potential rather than academic scores. Applications and detailed information can be found at www.kentuckygsa.org. The GSA encourages students without reliable internet access to reach out for accommodation options.
Set to take place in two sessions at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, the program offers studies in Creative Writing, Dance, Design, Drama, Film + Photography, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, Visual Art, and Vocal Music. Over 500 students will have the opportunity to engage in these disciplines, guided by experienced educators and artists.
To assist applicants, the GSA is hosting a series of informational webinars, including GSA 101 and “Meet Your Adjudicators,” to guide students, families, and educators through the application process. Attendance is free, but registration is required, with recordings available on the GSA website for those who cannot attend the live sessions.
Founded in 1987, the GSA is a collaborative effort between The Kentucky Center, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and various private supporters. Its mission is to nurture artistic talents and is supported by state funding, The Kentucky Center Endowment Fund, corporations, and individual donors.
As a vital part of Kentucky Performing Arts, GSA contributes significantly to the state's cultural and economic landscape. Kentucky Performing Arts, known for bringing world-class performances and educational opportunities, operates three venues in Louisville and is a key player in Kentucky’s tourism and local economy.
Garrard County students passionate about the arts are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. With the application deadline rapidly approaching, aspiring artists have the chance to join a legacy of creative excellence and community at the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts.
