KYTC District 7 Personnel Remain on Duty Amid Severe Winter Conditions
As winter's grip tightens, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has announced that its District 7 personnel will continue to be on duty, actively patrolling, treating, and removing snow from the routes in their jurisdiction. With road and air temperatures plummeting across all areas within District 7, the KYTC is bracing for what is forecasted to be a prolonged period of hazardous conditions, extending through Tuesday.
The KYTC strongly advises against unnecessary travel, urging residents to stay indoors unless absolutely essential. Those who must venture out are reminded to allow extra time for travel and to drive cautiously to ensure safety. The importance of being prepared cannot be overstressed, with the KYTC recommending that all vehicles be equipped with an emergency kit.
The extreme cold not only poses a risk to drivers but also contributes to hazardous driving conditions. One such danger is the formation of black ice on roads, particularly on asphalt and concrete surfaces, bridges, overpasses, and ramps. Black ice, often invisible, can lead to unexpected and dangerous situations for motorists.
In addition to the icy roads, the KYTC crews are also on the lookout for falling tree branches and limbs, a common occurrence in such freezing conditions. Equipped with chainsaws, these crews are prepared to undertake trimming and removal of brush to ensure road safety.

District 7, which includes Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott, and Woodford Counties, remains a focal point for these efforts.
The KYTC also recommends utilizing tools like GoKY or Waze on smartphones to navigate traffic effectively during this challenging period. The ongoing efforts of the KYTC District 7 personnel exemplify their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community during these severe winter conditions.
