Golden Lions Suffer Fourth Consecutive Loss to Briar Jumpers in Somerset Showdown

The Golden Lions faced yet another disappointment on the gridiron, falling 48-21 to the Briar Jumpers on Friday, Sept 8. Despite a valiant effort, which saw the Lions within striking distance at the end of the third quarter, the Somerset-based team managed to pull away in the final frame.

Garrard County's Golden Lions went into the fourth quarter with a deficit of just one touchdown, trailing 21-14. Hopes for a comeback were dashed, however, as the Briar Jumpers unleashed a 27-point blitz that left the Lions scrambling to catch up.

Junior running back Malachi Simmons provided a glimmer of hope for Garrard, rushing for two touchdowns in what marked his first scoring plays of the 2023 season. On the passing front, sophomore quarterback Justin Parsons connected with senior Hayden Elleman, achieving a touchdown pass that contributed to the Lions' short-lived momentum.

Kicker Zak Dailey, a junior, kept his flawless season record intact, nailing all three point-after-touchdown attempts. Dailey's contributions, however, were not enough to tip the scales in favor of the struggling Golden Lions, who now face a record of 0-4 for the season.

The Lions are now setting their sights on the upcoming homecoming game, hosting East Jessamine this Friday. The team will be looking to not only celebrate homecoming but also to secure their first victory of the season.
