Lady Lions VolleyballSenior Night, Look Ahead to District Tournament

On Tuesday, September 28, the Lady Lions volleyball team marked their final regular-season home game with a 3-1 win over Danville. The night was particularly special as it was designated as senior night for the team, honoring six graduating players for their commitment and contributions to the program.

The seniors—Presley Applegate, Haleigh Fry, Lexie Lewis, Chloe Middleton, Skylar Mullins, and Zakayla Penman—were celebrated in a ceremony that saw them receiving special gifts, surrounded by their friends and family. The atmosphere was one of jubilance and nostalgia, as the team and their supporters took a moment to reflect on the journey so far.

Although the District 45 Tournament will also be hosted at Garrard, this game marked the last time the Lady Lions would compete on their home court during the regular season. The team savored the victory but remained focused on their ultimate goal: winning the district tournament on their home floor.

The official dates for the District 45 Tournament have not yet been announced but are expected to be sometime in mid-October. Garrard, entering the tournament as a 3 seed, will face off against the Kentucky School for the Deaf, which holds the 6 seed. The same night will also see Danville Christian Academy (4 seed) competing against Danville (5 seed).

The winners of these initial matchups will move on to the semifinals. The team that emerges victorious from the Garrard and Kentucky School for the Deaf game will go on to challenge Lincoln, the 2 seed. Similarly, the winner of the game between Danville Christian Academy and Danville will face Boyle, the top-seeded team in the tournament.

The final stage of the District 45 Tournament will see the remaining two teams vying for the district trophy. Both finalists will also secure a spot in the 12th Region Tournament, the location for which is yet to be determined.

With their eyes set on the district title, the Lady Lions are gearing up for a challenging but promising postseason. Their senior night victory over Danville not only marked a fitting farewell to their home court but also set the stage for the battles that lie ahead.
