Lady Lions Push Boyle County to Five-Set Thriller, But Lose in 45th District Championship

It wasn’t the outcome they were hoping for, but the Lady Lions can stand proud after taking Boyle County to the absolute brink in a five-set thriller Thurday, Oct. 19, in Lancaster during the 45th District Championship.

The Lady Rebels were the top seed in the tournament and came in as heavy favorites after defeating Garrard four times in the regular season.

The Lions — the three seed in the tourney — didn’t seem to let that get into their heads. Even after dropping the first set 25-20, the Lady Lions picked themselves up off the gymnasium floor, dusted themselves off, and roared back to take the second frame 25-21.

Boyle again gained the advantage by taking the third set easily 25-16, but Garrard had yet another answer. The Lady Lions were down 14-11 in the fourth, but found their rhythm to win 25-17 and force a decisive fifth set.

In the fifth — which is played to 15 points (win by two) — Boyle came out hot, not leaving Garrard a chance to recollect themselves, and took the final frame 15-4 to leave the Lions as the runner-up.

Garrard seniors Chloe Middleton and Skylar Mullins were each named to the 45th District All-Tournament Team.
