In The ‘Green’ - One New Case In Past Week
(Lancaster, KY - June 17, 2021) — For the first time in 2021, Garrard County reached the ‘green’ portion of the state incidence rate map, marking a milestone for the county in declining COVID numbers.
There was only one new case of COVID-19 reported locally in the last week, between Wednesday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 15, according to numbers released by the state.
Garrard County’s total number of cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic stood at 1,552 cases as of Tuesday afternoon.
There were no newly reported deaths due to COVID within Garrard County this past week. The total number of deaths in the county attributed to the virus still stands at 36.
The county incident rate decreased by half from the same time last week, standing at 0.8 cases per 100,000 residents as of Tuesday evening. Garrard County had an incidence rate of 1.6 cases per 100,000 residents last Tuesday. The rate as of Tuesday put Garrard County’s relegation to the ‘green’ section of the state’s incidence rate map.
Green counties have a rate of less than one case per 100,000 residents. Yellow counties have a rate of 1 to 10 cases per 100,000 residents. Orange zone counties have a rate falling between 10 and 25 cases per 100,000 residents. Red zone counties are those with 25 or more average daily cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents.
Garrard’s rate has remained below 25 cases per 100,000 residents since mid February and for the first time this year dipped into the green this past weekend.
The 7-Day incidence is calculated by taking the total number of unique cases in each county over the past 7 days, divided by 7 to get a daily average, divided by the U.S. census bureau county population, and multiplied by 100,000 to get the incidence per 100,000 people.
In all neighboring counties rates were higher than in Garrard. All surrounding counties are still relegated to the ‘yellow’ portion of the state’s incidence rate map; though they also decreased their rates from the same time last week.
Rockcastle County reported the highest rate in the region with a rate of 6 cases per 100,000 residents and Mercer County followed with 5.9 cases per 100,000 residents.
Madison County reported a rate of 4.6 cases per 100,000 residents. Lincoln County reported 4.1 cases per 100,000 residents.
Boyle County had a rate of 2.9 cases per 100,000. Jessamine County had a rate of 2.6 cases per 100,000 residents.
Kentucky’s incidence rate for the entire state dipped slightly over the past week, standing at 4.1 cases per 100,000 residents on Tuesday afternoon; that is down from 4.62 at this same time last week.
