A Plan To Re-Open Garrard's Businesses
Lancaster, KY (April 23, 2020) - Garrard County Judge-Executive John Wilson released a blueprint for reopening Garrard County’s economy on Thursday.
“I just got off the phone with Governor Beshear after receiving an update on the progress of our response to COVID-19 and have some important news to share,” Wilson said on Thursday afternoon. “The initial justification for the closures and social distancing was to flatten the curve, i. e., slow the spread of the disease so that hospitals would not be overwhelmed, and it appears that that will not happen here as experts believe that the curve has now plateaued in Kentucky. As such, we are going to begin the transition from “Healthy at Home” to “Healthy at Work”; similar to what you’re seeing elsewhere around the country and around the world.”
Wilson said that policy makers are now discussing how to safely restart the economy, and Governor Beshear has asked for assistance from county judges towards this effort.
“Towards that end, I wanted to share our local proposal to gradually and safely begin loosening the restrictions, based on a similar proposal out of Somerset. The Governor agrees that this process must be gradual and well thought out in order to minimize a second spike that could have a more devastating impact on our country,” Wilson said.
”How successfully we do this will be the difference between victory and failure, and we must do this right and safely,” he added. “I encourage you to think about how this transition works best for you, your family, and our community because it’s critical that we get this right. We want to be successful and we want to be safe.”
