Sports writer Larry Vaught will be the keynote speaker at Thursday evening’s Farm-City Banquet.

It’s that time of year once again for the Farm/City Banquet.  

The banquet will be this Thursday, September 19th, at 6 p.m. at the Denny House in Paint Lick.  

“Chamber members, join us for this annual event recognizing the many talented leaders and businesses in Garrard County,” Chamber Director Dewayne Holland said. “We welcome High Voltage Entertainment, special guest speaker Larry Vaught and catering provided by Whole Latte Love Coffee Shop.”

Vaught is a seven-time winner of the Kentucky Sportswriter of the Year award and has covered University of Kentucky sports since 1975. He worked at The Advocate-Messenger in Danville for more than 40 years and was the newspaper’s sports editor from the mid-1990s through 2015. He still lives in Danville.

Larry now has a syndicated UK sports column appearing in 36 newspapers across the state, including the Central Record.

Larry also joins Mark Buerger and Anthony White on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports each week in Lexington as well as appearing each Tuesday with Tom Leach on The Leach Report. Twice a month on Thursday from 7:15-8 a.m. he also does a 45-minute UK sports show on WPBK (102.9 FM) and he also has a one-hour show from 9-10 a.m. one day per week on WKYB (107.5 FM).

In addition, he does a Kentucky Sports Minute each weekday for WPBK (102.9 in Stanford, KY) Radio Group that is on eight stations.

He’s a contributor to Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook and Tops in Lexington magazine.

Besides being selected for the Kentucky Sportswriter of the Year award by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, he has won numerous Kentucky Press Association writing awards. He is a member of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, Danville Schools Hall of Fame, Danville Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame and 12th Region Boys and Girls Basketball Halls of Fame.
