KSP Conducts Death Investigation in Lincoln County Following Gas Pipeline Explosion

STANFORD, Ky. (August 1, 2019) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was contacted early this morning following a fire in the area of Indian Camp Road, east of Stanford in Lincoln County. 

The initial investigation indicates that an underground gas pipeline ruptured at approximately 1:20 am, resulting in an explosion and fire that destroyed multiple residences.  As a result of the fire, Lisa D. Derringer, 58 years old of Stanford, KY, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased by the Lincoln County Coroner.  She has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.  A Lincoln County Deputy and several other nearby residents sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the fire, and were taken to Ephraim McDowell Hospital for treatment.

The ongoing death investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 7 Detective Cameron Allen.  He was assisted at the scene by multiple agencies including KSP Personnel, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, ATF, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Lincoln County EMS, Lincoln County EMA, Lincoln County Fire & Rescue, and the Lincoln County Coroner.  The ongoing investigation into the cause of the explosion is being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and any further information will be released by their agency.
