Garrard County CASA Lights Up Hope with Angel Tree Event

The community of Garrard County is preparing for a beacon of hope and generosity to shine bright in the First Southern National Bank lobby. At 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the Garrard County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) will host the annual lighting of the CASA Angel Tree, located at 27 Public Square.

This heartwarming event marks the beginning of a season of giving, aimed at ensuring that children within the Garrard family court system experience the joy of the holiday season. Each year, the CASA Angel Tree initiative seeks to brighten the holidays for these children, who might not otherwise receive gifts.

The ceremony will open with remarks from local dignitaries and a representative from CASA, highlighting the impact of the organization and the importance of community support. Attendees will then have the opportunity to participate in the tradition of selecting a child’s name from the Angel Tree. These names represent children who are currently under the family court's protection due to abuse or neglect, and each name is accompanied by a wish list for the holiday season.

Community members are encouraged to shop for gifts that fulfill these wishes and return their contributions to CASA. This act of giving not only provides immediate joy to the children but also contributes to a sense of normalcy and care during a tumultuous time in their lives.

The gifts will be distributed by dedicated CASA volunteers to the children’s current caregivers in early December. This timing is intentional, ensuring that families have ample time to wrap and prepare the presents for the holidays, preserving the magic and surprise of the season.

CASA of Lexington, which encompasses a network that includes Bourbon, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Lincoln, Scott, and Woodford counties, is committed to advocating for the safety and well-being of abused and neglected children. Through the work of trained and supervised volunteers, the organization strives to provide a voice for these children in family court, ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive in a safe and permanent home.
