Sewing Class Offers Opportunity to Craft Custom Tote Bags and Accessories

The University of Kentucky’s Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment, in collaboration with the Garrard County Extension Office, is hosting a four-session sewing class aimed at those interested in learning to make their own tote bags and accessories.

The course, titled "Sew a Totebag," will be led by instructor Debby Jorgensen and runs the first four Tuesdays in October.

The class, which costs just $10, will take place on October 3, 10, 17, and 24, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Garrard County Extension Office located at 1302 Stanford Rd, Lancaster, KY. Limited to just six participants, this self-paced, hands-on class offers a unique opportunity for attendees to craft two different styles of tote bags as well as small personal accessories such as coin purses, wallets, and zippered bags for makeup or other small items.

Participants will need to bring their own fabric, specifically 100% cotton fabrics, zippers, and matching thread, while other necessary materials will be provided. A more detailed supply list will be made available upon registration. For those without a sewing machine, the class offers the option to borrow one upon request.

This class provides a relaxed environment for beginners and more advanced sewing enthusiasts alike to explore their creativity and produce functional, personalized items. For more information or to sign up, interested individuals can contact Kayla Lunsford at 859-792-3026 or email her at kayla.lunsford@uky.edu.

The Garrard County Extension Service is known for its wide variety of educational programs, and this sewing class represents just one of the ways it supports local residents by offering practical skills development opportunities in arts and crafts.

With the class size limited to just six participants, early registration is encouraged to secure a spot in this exciting, skill-building course.
