Kentucky Announces First Confiscated Alcohol Auction, Proceeds Benefit Responsibility Programs
Online sale begins Nov. 27
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Team Kentucky and the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) are announcing the first online confiscated alcohol auction where proceeds benefit responsibility programs, like Project Prom and Project Graduation.
The online auction opens Nov. 27 and closes at midnight on Dec. 11. The auction is possible thanks to a new state law that allows products confiscated from closed criminal investigations conducted by the ABC to be auctioned.
“We are proud to help finance educational programs that promote responsible alcohol use by adults and awareness programs for youth, including Project Prom and Project Graduation,” said ABC Commissioner Allyson Taylor. “We look forward to seeing the response to this auction and have started planning additional auctions for 2025.”
The auction includes 32 bottles of alcohol, including two bottles of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year, a Blanton’s Single Barrel Gold in box with Japanese markings, and a “stock the bar” bundle that includes bottles of wine, vodka, rum and Jack Daniel’s Vanilla. A full list of available items is posted on the auction site.
In April, Gov. Beshear signed bipartisan House Bill 439, expanding the Malt Beverage Education Corporation, which funded Project Prom and Project Graduation events, to become the AWARE board. The AWARE board’s mission is to provide grants to Kentucky high schools, colleges, universities and outside organizations to support alcohol responsibility programs. House Bill 439 also gave the ABC the ability to dispose of alcoholic beverages through public auction.
A link to the online auction is available at the ABC.ky.gov. Winning bidders must pick up items in Frankfort, auction items cannot be shipped. For more information on the AWARE Board, visit ABC.ky.gov.
