Garrard County Extension Office Hosts Pumpkin Carving Contest

The Garrard County Extension Office, in collaboration with the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment at the University of Kentucky, is inviting local residents to showcase their creative skills through a community-wide Pumpkin Carving Contest.

The contest aims to celebrate the fall season with a fun and engaging activity for individuals and families alike, while fostering a spirit of community involvement.

Participants can pick up their pumpkins between Wednesday, October 9th, through Friday, October 11th, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Extension Office, located at 1302 Stanford Road in Garrard County.

Each participating household will receive one free pumpkin, along with a fall-themed goodie bag on a first-come, first-served basis.

The pumpkins, which are a centerpiece of the contest, must be carved and returned to the office by Monday, October 14th, within the same business hours.

The contest provides an excellent opportunity for participants to unleash their creativity and demonstrate their pumpkin-carving abilities. Whether showcasing spooky designs, artistic patterns, or playful themes, community members are encouraged to bring their best work forward.

Judging for the contest will take place on Tuesday, October 15th, with winners announced later in the day.

A panel of judges will select the top three carvings, awarding prizes to those who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The results will also be posted on the Extension Office’s Facebook page, ensuring that the entire community can share in the excitement of the competition.

This event not only provides an opportunity for fall fun but also promotes engagement with the local Cooperative Extension Service. The organization is known for offering various programs and activities aimed at strengthening the community through education in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, and more.

Community members are encouraged to take part in the event, not only to win prizes but also to participate in a fun, family-friendly activity that enhances the seasonal spirit of Garrard County.

For more information, visit the Garrard County Extension Office during regular business hours or contact them directly. Don’t forget to return your carved pumpkin by the deadline on October 14th to join in the fall festivities and for a chance to win!
