Garrard County High School Girls Soccer Team Advances to Regions with Decisive Win
Garrard County High School girls soccer team marked a significant achievement on Monday night, Oct. 2, as they secured their place in regions by defeating Lincoln County with a solid 3-0 win during the 45th District Tournament semifinals. This victory represents only the second time the school's girls soccer team has reached this phase in their history.
The Lady Lions demonstrated their prowess early on, notching all three goals within the first 11 minutes. Junior Nevaeh Ford-Willkom initiated the scoring spree in the fifth minute, netting a goal with an assist from freshman Ava Warren. Soon after, in less than two minutes, freshman Paisley Poynter scored, aided by fellow freshman Katlyn Ray. Poynter's efforts did not stop there, as she set up freshman Kenedy Rayburn for the third goal.
Garrard's goalkeeper, Erica Heibenthal, showcased her skills, making five crucial saves throughout the game, ensuring the Lady Lions maintained their lead.
The next challenge for Garrard lies ahead as they are slated to compete against the top-seeded Boyle County on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. for the 45th District Championship title. It's worth noting that Boyle County had previously triumphed over Garrard with a resounding 10-0 score in their regular-season encounter.
