Walk In Love: Planned March For This Friday, June 12 At 6:30PM

Lancaster, KY (June 10, 2020) — In light of the current atmosphere and discussions surrounding race relations in America a demonstration has been organized for Friday, June 12. The event will begin at the old Garrard County Courthouse at 6:30 p.m. and is open to all who wish to attend. Organizers say they hope the peaceful congregation will allow all voices to be heard (be it by signs, shirts, cheers, through an actual microphone or other peaceful ways) and that it will promote unity in Garrard County through raw, yet civil, discourse.

After speakers, musicians and prayers are heard, a march will leave the square heading north on US 27 right-of-ways and turning left onto Maple Avenue until reaching Lancaster City Hall. After speakers and prayers are heard there the march will proceed down York Street and back toward the Square on US 52 right-of-ways. The culmination will be at the old court house. There will be remarks, prayers and music at each stop from community leaders, citizens and faith leaders.

Everyone is asked to obey law enforcement officers as they will be serving in a safety and traffic-regulation role.

More information can be found by searching for the event page “Walk in Love” on Facebook. Those interested in participating beyond marching can also make contact with organizers through the page.

The page invites everyone to gather:

“...as all of God’s children gather in love, support, peace and unity. We will pray for our nation and march peacefully for a change of the hearts and minds of people across America in the name of Jesus.

“We will begin at 6:30 p.m. with prayer/remarks at the square from some of our faith leaders and council members in the community. The march will begin at 7:00 p.m.

“We encourage all who are able to attend to join us and feel free to bring respectable signs, shirts etc. to the event.

“We are working with our mayor and LPD to ensure the safest and best assistance will be provided to all who are present. Please practice social distancing and we encourage those who attend to wear a face mask. We will be placing X's in certain areas as an example for distancing requirements.”
